Esther Cawley
About
Esther is a visual artist and creative practitioner based in Beverley in the East Riding of Yorkshire. She has a workspace at Hull's 'Juice Studios', an artist-run workshop and studio facility situated along Hull's vibrant Humber Street.
Art Education
Postgraduate
Esther recently completed the Drawing Development Year with the Royal Drawing School, London. The year represented a fantastic opportunity to learn both from the artist tutors and also from other students on the course. The 2023 cohort organised and curated an exhibition to mark the completion of their intensive year. This was kindly supported by the school who generously made available their gallery in South Kensington for the group exhibition in March 2024. An accompanying website and catalogue were created to contextualise the show and provide additional information about the artists, including studio shots and artists' websites.
Undergraduate
Esther completed a BA (hons) in Fine Art at Kingston University, London, specialising in painting. Over the three years she was fortunate to gain tuition from tutors and visiting lecturers, amongst these painter Dexter Dalewood, Sharon Beavan, Jeff Dellow and Gina Medcalf. Of particular interest to her were the regular studio visits facilitated by painter Tim Allen, who took the students across London to visit the working spaces of Gavin Turk, Tracey Emin, and Glenn Brown, to name a few of the more memorable outings.
Foundation
Esther's year on the Art and Design Foundation course at De Montfort University, Lincoln, was an exciting and intense year. New methodologies and ideas were taught through modules and lectures. Esther chose to complete her final term in the Fine Art department, where her love of drawing painting began.
