Esther is a practicing visual artist based at Shirethorn House, in the centre of Hull.

Esther makes paintings, drawings and teaches art sessions, courses and workshops. She runs individual classes, group drawing workshops and works alongside arts organisations to develop and deliver creative arts workshops. She also works freelance for schools and colleges, delivering clothed and unclothed life-drawing workshops across secondary pupils and college students.

Recent arts education work:

1 Lead artist at the Ferens Art Gallery, Hull for schools workshops in response to the Open Art exhibition.

2 Working in collaboration with another professional artist, Esther devised and delivered playful and performative 'dress-up and draw' Life classes.  These sessions accompanied a group show which included her work, and was a family event for all ages.

3 Devised and developed and led arts workshops for young people, taking place at both the Treasure House/Beverley Art Gallery and also Sewerby Hall.  Funded by HAF (government 'Holidays, activities and food), these day-long workshops enabled young people to enhance their understanding of the arts, develop creative skills and socialise together over the summer holidays, whilst also receiving free lunches. Esther will also be delivering a course this year at Sewerby Hall for young people.  Thanks to the funding, these sessions can be accessed for free.

Testimonial from recent 1-2-1 student:

One of my sons gave me a gift of 4 one hour online lessons with Esther Cawley which I took up in August 2021. Without doubt this was one of the best gifts I have ever received.

Although I already do painting and drawing using various media Esther’s tuition significantly increased my knowledge in the two aspects we covered – pencil and oil -  and gave me a “starter for ten” in other techniques.

As ex UK military I have studied many subjects under dozens of tutors. I have no hesitation in naming Esther as one of the best tutors I have ever studied under. Esther blends a very high standard of personal knowledge with the ability to pass on information – crucial in any tutor.

In my opinion Esther should be “the go to “for anyone who is considering starting art or improving their own abilities.
